As I was searching my old files I came across a quote by Thomas Gordon. I think it says a lot in just a few words. “You and I have a conflict of needs. I respect your needs, but I must respect my own, too. I will not use my power over you so I win and you lose, but I cannot give in and let you win at the expense of my losing. So let’s agree to search together for a solution that would satisfy your needs and also satisfy mine, so no one loses.”

Why do an Advance Directive?

I think the question should be why not. If you are 18 years or older I believe it it is time for you to consider your personal choices when it comes to your personal health. What?, you are healthy, your young, you do not need to think about this. Besides your family knows what you want. I challenge you right now. Take five minutes and tell a trusted family member today you were hit by a truck and left paraylazyed from the neck down. Your alive. Thinking about all the of the ramifications and without discussion first ask them what would YOU want medically. You may get lucky but I am willing to guess more then not your family does not know (maybe you don’t even know for yourself) what you want. Time for a Choose To Live Well Reunion. Gather as many family and friends together and start talking and when you are ready Put it in writing.
